This Stacked Daruma figurine is hand-carved from natural Japanese yew wood by master craftsman Hiroshi Washizuka in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is created using the Ichii Itto Bori technique, a traditional woodcarving method from the Hida region that dates back to the early 1900s. The style is characterized by clean, angular cuts that give the wood a faceted, geometric form while retaining a strong sense of life and expression.

The piece features two Daruma figures stacked one above the other, symbolizing the layering of good fortune upon good luck. Each Daruma has a unique facial expression, giving every carving its own personality. Their black inlaid eyes stand out against the warm, honey-colored yew, adding depth and presence to the piece. No artificial coloring is used, allowing the natural beauty and grain of the wood to remain visible. Over time, the yew wood will develop a richer patina, adding character as it ages.

In Japanese culture, the Daruma represents perseverance, determination, and protection against misfortune. Stacking two Daruma figures enhances the symbolism, representing compounded blessings, success building upon success, and wishes multiplying over time. This makes it a fitting gift for milestones, such as promotions, anniversaries, business openings, or other celebrations where the wish is for continued prosperity.

Compact and lightweight, this figurine fits easily on a desk, shelf, or alcove display. It invites closer inspection and brings a quiet yet warm presence to any space.
