This bowl doesn’t try to impress, for it simply exists the way it was made: slightly uneven, heavy in the base, and glazed like cooled ash over stone.

It’s a piece shaped by fire, not polish. You can see where the clay stretched, where the potter's fingers left ridges under the glaze, where gravity pulled the slip into quiet patterns. No symmetry or perfection involved, yet, it holds its own.

Made in Gifu using traditional Shino ware techniques, the glaze settles in a fogged-over gray with specks of rust and hints of cream. The surface isn’t glossy; it’s softer and drier to the eye, almost like frost.

The body flares outward and then straightens, forming a loose cylinder that fits in the hand without trying to. This is handmade Japanese pottery in its purest form, with no decoration or pretense.

At 11.5 cm wide and 7.9 cm tall, it’s built for use. Matcha, miso, rice - whatever fits. The inside carries a delicate ripple from the turning wheel. The foot is wide, raw, spiraled. There's no stamp, but it doesn’t need one. It speaks clearly for what it is: a bowl made with skill, not for show.

This Japanese bowl is all about material. Clay, ash, glaze, time. A good object with weight and texture; something that feels right when you pick it up.

Use it. Let it chip. Let it stain. That’s the point.

Please note:

Many of these bowls are vintage and may have small cracks, stains, or chips.

They were originally made in Japan for drinking tea (HS: 6912.00 or 6911.10), but we sell them as decorative items (HS: 6913.10) since there are no test results or certificates.

Some bowls come with free outer boxes (wood or cardboard), but this varies by item.

We do not accept OEM or branding requests.

Free EMS shipping from Japan is included; our trading company in Fukuoka handles all exports from our warehouse there.

Each bowl is one of a kind; once sold, it won’t be restocked.
