The Nichi Rin Kiriko glass is a hand-cut and hand-polished piece of Japanese craftsmanship, created in Tokyo by skilled artisans. Using the Kiriko glass-cutting technique, every surface is shaped with precision, without chemicals, to achieve a brilliance that rivals even the celebrated Edo Kiriko tradition.
The design features a striking contrast of geometric latticework and radiating sunburst cuts. The circular motif, resembling the sun and moon (Nichi Rin translates to “sun wheel”), symbolizes harmony, renewal, and the balance of cosmic forces in Japanese culture. This connection to natural cycles gives the glass a deeper meaning beyond its function.
The glass combines shades of green and aqua that shift under the light. When placed in sunlight, the facets reflect in dazzling patterns, creating the impression of rippling water or glowing energy. Viewed from the base, the radiating cuts form a star-like mandala, reinforcing the connection between nature, geometry, and light.
Each glass is individually cut and polished by hand, so no two pieces are exactly alike. This makes it both a functional everyday vessel and a collectible art object. Its form and symbolism make it suitable for personal enjoyment, ceremonial use, or as a thoughtful gift that embodies Japanese craftsmanship and cultural tradition.
