The Nagare Kiku plate is a hand-cut and hand-polished work of Japanese Kiriko glass craftsmanship. Made in Tokyo by Rinzen, it is crafted from natural soda glass and shaped into a smooth, perfectly balanced circle measuring 18.7 cm in diameter. Its design features sweeping curved cuts that flow in a spiral motion, evoking the sense of water in motion, with a central radiating motif that resembles the petals of a chrysanthemum, a flower deeply tied to Japanese culture as a symbol of longevity, renewal, and imperial dignity.

Each plate is created without chemical polishing. Instead, the artisan shapes and smooths the glass entirely by hand, using traditional tools and techniques to achieve a clarity and brilliance beyond that of standard Edo Kiriko. The surface is covered with fine asanoha (hemp leaf) patterns, a geometric design symbolizing growth, resilience, and protection, which catch and scatter light like facets of a gemstone. The alternating clear and frosted surfaces enhance contrast, making the plate shimmer differently depending on the angle of view and the surrounding light.

This plate is more than tableware; it is a functional art piece. Used for serving, it elevates the presentation of food, reflecting colors and textures back through the glass. As a decorative display piece, it adds a luminous focal point to any interior. When sunlight passes over it, the intricate cuts refract light in a shifting pattern, creating the impression of flowing water or rippling silk.

The Nagare Kiku plate blends traditional symbolism, natural materials, and modern artistry. It is suited for collectors, as a thoughtful gift for special occasions, or for those who value objects that combine beauty, cultural meaning, and skilled craftsmanship.
