The Kyusu Ibushi Yokote is a handcrafted side-handled teapot created using the Osaka Naniwa Pewter Ware technique, a craft tradition that has been passed down for more than 300 years since the Edo period. Made of tin and finished with natural wooden fittings, it represents both cultural heritage and modern usability.
Tin is valued in Japan for its ability to purify water by absorbing impurities, which in turn enhances the natural flavor of tea. This quality, combined with the smooth anti-rust and anti-discoloration properties of tin, makes the Kyusu both practical and enduring.
The exterior is decorated with traditional motifs, including cranes and pines, which symbolize longevity, resilience, and good fortune. The natural metallic finish gives the teapot a subdued elegance, while the paulownia wood box it comes in underscores its value as both a functional item and a collectible piece of Japanese craftsmanship.
This teapot highlights the artistry of Osaka Suzuki’s workshop, where nationally certified craftsmen and traditional artisans continue to refine and preserve this historic technique.
