The 2016/ Kueng Caputo Ornamental Plate 310 series is a set of sculptural porcelain pieces created using the traditional Imari-Arita ware techniques of Saga Prefecture, Japan. Each plate features a striking color gradation achieved through a meticulous airbrush spraying process, blending hues so that they shift subtly under changing light. This effect is intentional - each angle reveals a different brightness and tone, highlighting the smooth curvature and sharply defined edges of the form.

The series comes in three variants:

1. Black-White - a minimalist monochrome gradient that moves from deep black to soft white.
2. Peacock - a rich teal-green gradient with muted transitions that recall the iridescence of peacock feathers.
3. Red-Dark Red - an intense crimson fade, from bright red to a deeper shade, evoking lacquerware and Japanese textile dyes.

Although the design is modern and bold, the matte finish tempers the colors, making them versatile for a range of interiors. The plate’s shallow form and wide surface serve as a visual focal point, whether displayed on a table, shelf, or stand. While it resembles functional tableware, this is a decorative object and not intended for serving food.

Each plate is crafted from porcelain that incorporates reclaimed material. Discarded porcelain is broken into small fragments, then mixed with glaze, resulting in subtle variations in color, speckles, and surface texture, making every piece one-of-a-kind. The craftsmanship combines the precision of contemporary design with centuries-old Japanese porcelain traditions, reflecting both sustainability and artistry.

Symbolically, the gradient represents transition and balance, themes often valued in Japanese aesthetics. The restrained matte texture aligns with the principle of shibui, an appreciation for understated elegance. Whether placed in a minimalist home, a gallery setting, or used as part of a seasonal display, the plate works as a statement piece that respects tradition while embracing modern form.
