This Edo Kiriko crystal vase by Kagami Crystal showcases two of Japan’s most enduring cut-glass patterns: asanoha (hemp leaves) and kagome (octagonal basket weave). The hemp leaf motif has been used in Japanese design for centuries as a symbol of growth, strength, and resilience, while the basket weave represents protection and harmony. Together, they create a layered design rich in cultural meaning.
The vase is made with a double-layered structure: deep blue crystal on the outside and clear crystal within. This allows each hand-cut facet to reveal sharp contrast, depth, and brilliance. When light strikes the surface, the patterns sparkle as though the vase is set with countless jewels.
Crafted in Ibaraki by Kagami Crystal, a workshop renowned for its Edo Kiriko since 1934, this piece reflects the highest level of Japanese glass artistry. Each cut is made by hand, guided by the artisan’s precision and years of experience. The result is a substantial, weighty vase that can serve as a flower vessel or as a standalone art object.
With its rich blue tone and intricate faceting, this vase works in both traditional and modern interiors. It is suitable for ceremonial occasions, as a collector’s piece, or as a refined gift for weddings and housewarmings.
