This Edo Kiriko vase from Kagami Crystal is crafted from vibrant red crystal glass and features two time-honored Japanese patterns: bamboo leaves (sasa no ha) and hemp leaves (asanoha). Both motifs carry deep cultural symbolism. Bamboo leaves are associated with resilience and longevity, as bamboo bends without breaking and stays green throughout the year. Hemp leaves symbolize growth and vitality, historically believed to promote healthy development, especially in children. Together, these patterns make the vase a meaningful gift that conveys wishes for strength, prosperity, and well-being.

The patterns are created through the Edo cut glass technique, a craft that originated in the Edo period and requires precise hand-cutting by skilled artisans. The cuts catch and refract light, producing a luminous effect that shifts as the vase is viewed from different angles. The tall, flared form and clear, geometric arrangement of cuts give the vase a commanding presence without overwhelming its surroundings, making it equally suitable for a minimal space or a richly decorated room.

With a height of 19 cm (7.48 inches) and a weight of 1.47 kg (3.24 lbs), the vase is solid and stable, designed to hold floral arrangements securely. Its clear interior base transitions into the deep red overlay, which is cut away in patterns to reveal the crystal beneath. When placed near a light source, the reflections highlight the depth of color and the sharpness of the carving.

Edo Kiriko glassware from Kagami Crystal is recognized worldwide for its artistry and quality. Since its founding in 1934, Kagami has been Japan’s leading luxury crystal maker, with pieces presented to foreign dignitaries, royalty, and heads of state. This vase continues that tradition, merging cultural heritage with functional design.

While beautiful as a decorative object, it is not designed for dishwashers, microwaves, ovens, or exposure to sudden temperature changes. Cleaning should be done with a soft cloth and mild water rinse, avoiding abrasives or bleach.
