This Edo Kiriko crystal vase, titled Bonfire, is the work of Tatsuya Nemoto, a certified Master of Traditional Crafts and one of Japan’s most skilled glass artisans. Made by Kagami Crystal in Ibaraki, Japan, the piece is cut from golden-yellow crystal glass that radiates warmth and brilliance, evoking the glow and intensity of a real bonfire.

The vase’s vertical cuts rise from the base like flames reaching upward, giving the form a sense of movement and energy. Around the center, Nemoto has engraved the Kiku Tsunagi pattern - rows of interlinked chrysanthemum flowers. This traditional Edo faceting motif carries cultural significance in Japan, symbolizing longevity, vitality, and ongoing happiness. The continuous design reflects a wish for prosperity and the enduring beauty of life.

The interplay between the bold vertical facets and the intricate chrysanthemum lattice demonstrates Nemoto’s mastery of balance in design.
