This Ibushi Iris-Type Vase is a handcrafted work from Osaka Suzuki, one of Japan’s leading makers of traditional pewterware. Produced in Osaka using the historic Osaka Naniwa technique, it is shaped from tin and finished with the ibushi patina that gives the surface a rich, aged silver tone. The design depicts a detailed Japanese landscape in fine engraving, complete with a flowing river, arched bridge, distant mountains, and clouds drifting above - a scene evoking harmony between nature and human craftsmanship.

Osaka Naniwa pewterware has been produced for over 300 years, tracing its origins back to the Edo period. Today, Osaka Suzuki employs a team of highly skilled artisans, including nationally certified master craftsmen, who continue to refine and preserve these traditional methods.

Tin is valued in Japan not only for its luster but also for its unique properties. It is believed to absorb impurities from water, improving clarity and taste. When used for serving drinks such as sake or beer, the flavor is said to become smoother and more mellow. While functional, this vase is most often appreciated as a display piece, symbolizing refinement, tradition, and the enduring artistry of Japanese metalwork.

This tall, elegant vase stands 27.5 cm high, making it suitable as a statement piece in a tokonoma alcove, entryway, or living space. It comes housed in a paulownia wood box, both for protection and as part of its cultural presentation.
