Have you ever set down your mug only to realize your daily tea ritual feels bland?
That quiet moment could use something more; something soulful. This Hagi Hearth Chawan answers that. With its earthy glaze and gentle curves, it brings warmth back into every sip.
Hand‑thrown in Hagi, Yamaguchi, this piece is part of the Vintage Japanese Ceramic Bowls collection, rooted in centuries‑old artistry. You’ll notice its soft Tenmoku‑style glaze, pulling from traditional Japanese ceramics, giving a smoky, muted brown tone that changes under light.
The surface cradles tiny crackles - a nod to wabi sabi pottery - each imperfection a sign of time well spent.
It measures 11.3 cm across and stands 7.2 cm tall, the ideal size for matcha or morning tea. The foot is rough‑hewn, leaving clay exposed at the bottom (a signature of Hagi ware), inviting your fingers to feel its texture as you lift it.
Inside, the glaze pools unevenly, creating a small landscape of dark and light, like moonlight on stone. It’s a chawan tea bowl that carries personality in its weight and balance.

Mind you, this isn’t a mass‑made antique Japanese bowl. It’s a handmade Japanese pottery piece with a story. You can see where it was fired in a traditional kiln - areas softened by ash, spots where the glaze thinned and revealed the clay’s raw warmth. It’s collectible Japanese tea bowl territory without feeling fragile or distant.

It is most certainly practical. Use it every day. Whether it’s your first matcha in the morning or tucked into your evening ritual, it grounds you. It’s both functional and beautiful; more collectible Japanese tea bowl than display shelf ornament.

When you bring this Hagi Hearth Chawan into your routine, you add depth: tradition in your hands, ritual in your day. No need for flash. Just a bowl that feels right.

Enjoy the simple pleasure of your drink.
