The Fuka (Dazzling Wind) Crystal Cup Set is a striking work of Edo Kiriko cut glass, designed and crafted by Junichi Nabetani, a recognized Master of Traditional Crafts. Produced by Kagami Crystal in Ibaraki, Japan, this set includes a crystal pitcher and two cups, each featuring the intricate Tama-Kiku Tsunagi motif, a refined pattern that combines the chrysanthemum (kiku), a symbol of longevity and renewal, with tama (sphere) cuts, representing harmony and continuity.

The design reflects both delicacy and brilliance, with light refracting through every cut to create a dazzling interplay of patterns. The amber-yellow crystal glass adds warmth and vibrancy, making the set especially suited for celebrations, festive dining, and formal hospitality.

Symbolism and Cultural Value

Chrysanthemum (Kiku): In Japan, this flower represents life, endurance, and imperial dignity.

Tama Cutwork: Symbolizes cycles of nature, harmony, and flowing energy.

Yellow Crystal: Traditionally linked to joy, optimism, and prosperity, ideal for celebratory occasions.

Craftsmanship

Edo Kiriko, a traditional craft that began in Edo (Tokyo) during the 19th century, is known for its precise geometric cutwork and use of color overlay glass. Nabetani’s work showcases the highest level of this tradition, with a balance of technical mastery and artistic expression. Each piece requires exacting skill and time, resulting in a set that is both a functional tableware item and a piece of collectible art.

Function and Everyday Use

The pitcher holds 320ml, perfect for pouring fine drinks such as fine teas, while each cup holds 60ml, ideal for tasting and serving. While designed for drinks, these crystal vessels also stand as decorative pieces that highlight the artistry of Japanese glasswork.
