The Flower Light Vase with Gold Ears is a handcrafted glass work created using the Tsugaru Vidro technique in Aomori, Japan. Its design captures the beauty of cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Castle, one of Japan’s most celebrated sakura viewing spots. The swirling pink, white, and soft magenta tones mimic petals drifting across the moat’s mirrored surface, while flecks of gold leaf bring a warm glow. The name Hana Akari refers to the way cherry blossoms seem to shine even at night when in full bloom.

Crafted by skilled artisans at Hokuyo Glass, this vase is made with the traditional air-blowing method, where molten glass is layered five times to create depth and texture. This layering gives the vase a three-dimensional look, as if the petals are suspended in motion. The gold “ears” on either side of the neck add a refined, decorative detail, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.

This piece is not mass-produced; its creation requires expert precision and is limited in number. The weight and size make it a substantial display object, suitable for placement on a central table, in an alcove, or as part of a seasonal decorative arrangement. Beyond its visual appeal, the vase holds cultural significance, echoing Japan’s deep connection to the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms. It stands as both a functional vessel and a symbolic art piece, making it a meaningful gift for collectors, cultural enthusiasts, and those who value fine Japanese glasswork.
