These Aroma Pots Shippo are crafted with the traditional Owari Cloisonné (Shippo-yaki) technique, a decorative art that layers fine glass enamel onto metal. Made by Kato Shippo Seisakusyo in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, each piece carries centuries of heritage and artistry.
The design features the Shippo-tsunagi (seven treasures) pattern, an interconnected circular motif symbolizing harmony, prosperity, and long-lasting relationships. In Japanese tradition, this pattern expresses wishes for happiness, family unity, and enduring good fortune.
The surface shimmers with layers of silver foil beneath translucent enamel glaze, producing a deep, luminous color that shifts with light. The red variation represents vitality, joy, and celebration, while the navy blue variation conveys calm, stability, and depth. Each color holds symbolic meaning in Japanese aesthetics, making the vessels suitable for both daily use and ceremonial display.
These vessels are versatile and functional. They can be used as an aroma pot to hold incense or fragrance sticks, creating a relaxing atmosphere, or as a small flower vase, perfect for displaying a single blossom. Even when empty, they serve as a striking decorative accent.
The compact size makes them ideal for personal spaces such as a tea room, living room, or entryway. They also serve as thoughtful gifts for weddings, anniversaries, housewarmings, or other milestones, carrying the symbolism of harmony and longevity.
